Frequently Asked Questions
1. Who are the lessons suitable for?
Lessons are open to children from around age four, teenagers and adults, whether you’re a complete beginner, returning after a break or an advanced player. The content and pace are tailored to your individual needs.
2. Do I need any previous experience or a special talent?
No previous experience is needed. What matters is curiosity, patience and regular practice. You’ll learn to read music, develop your sense of rhythm and build your technique step by step.
3. How long is each lesson?
Lessons last 30, 45 or 60 minutes. The 30-minute option is intended for younger children, generally up to around age seven. For older children, teenagers and adults, I usually recommend 45 or 60 minutes.
4. How often do lessons take place?
Regular lessons normally take place once a week. Additional sessions can be arranged for specific goals, such as preparing for an entrance audition or a competition.
5. How much do lessons cost, and is there a trial lesson?
Your first trial lesson is free, with no obligation to continue. I offer regular online and in-person lessons, as well as individual sessions and 10-lesson packages. You’ll find all prices and options on the Fees page.
6. What if I don’t have a violin yet?
That’s no problem. Renting is often a practical way to start, especially for children and beginners. I can help you choose a suitable instrument to rent or buy, find the right size and select the accessories you need.
7. What equipment do I need?
You’ll need a violin, a bow, rosin and a suitable shoulder rest. For online lessons, you’ll also need a reliable internet connection and a computer or tablet with a camera and microphone. A smartphone works too, although a larger screen makes demonstrations easier to follow.
8. Are online violin lessons suitable for beginners?
Yes. Video lessons allow us to work on posture, technique, playing in tune and musical expression through clear demonstrations and individual feedback. During your free trial lesson, we check the sound, video and camera position together. For younger children, it helps to have an adult nearby at first.
9. Where do lessons take place?
In-person lessons take place at St. Johannes Lutheran Church, Augsburger Straße 36A, 93051 Regensburg, Germany. Online lessons are available internationally in English or German, subject to scheduling and time-zone availability. I do not offer home visits.
10. How much should I practise at home?
Short, regular practice sessions are usually more effective than occasional long ones. In each lesson, you’ll receive clear, personalised goals to guide your practice until we meet again.
11. Can you help me prepare for competitions and auditions?
Yes. I help students prepare for competitions, performances and auditions, including music school and conservatoire entrance auditions. Together, we develop a structured practice plan and work on technique, interpretation and confident performance.
12. Are there opportunities to perform for an audience?
When enough students are able to take part, I organise student recitals. These provide a supportive setting in which to share the pieces you’ve learned and gain performance experience.
13. Do lessons take place during school holidays?
Regular lessons generally follow the Bavarian school holiday calendar in Germany, including for online students abroad. However, lessons continue during the first three weeks of the Bavarian summer holidays at no extra charge. There are no regular lessons during the remaining school holidays or on Bavarian public holidays.
